Why do all my files names start with DC followed by a number? Click here to return to the FAQ page!

Files deleted from the Recycle Bin will be listed as DC.extension where is any number that is assigned by Windows when the file is placed in the Recycle Bin and .extension is the original extension of the file. For example if you place MYRESUME.DOC in the Recycle Bin and empty the Recycle Bin, the file may show up as DC1.DOC in the deleted files list. You can verify the contents in the preview window and recover the file and rename it back to its original name after recovery.

To locate these files, specify *.* in the Filename to Locate field, and check the box to search only files deleted from the Recycle Bin. You may then use the preview function to identify the file contents of the deleted file and recover the file.
