There may be one of several reasons you are unable to locate your deleted file.

File was deleted by emptying the Recycle Bin

The most common reason is that if the file was deleted when you emptied the Recycle Bin, the filename will have been altered by Windows.

Files deleted from the Recycle Bin will be listed as DC.extension where is any number that is assigned by Windows when the file is placed in the Recycle Bin and .extension is the original extension of the file. For example if you place MYRESUME.DOC in the Recycle Bin and empty the Recycle Bin, the file may show up as DC1.DOC in the deleted files list. You can verify the contents in the preview window and recover the file and rename it back to its original name after recovering it.

To locate these files, specify *.* in the Filename to Locate field, and check the box to search only files deleted from the Recycle Bin. You may then use the preview function to identify the file contents of the deleted file and recover the file.

File was deleted on a FAT drive such as a Camera Card or USB Drive

On FAT formatted drives such as Camera Cards and USB drives, or drives on Windows 98, 98SE and ME systems, the first character of the file name may be replaced with an underscore (_) as Windows removes the first character to indicate the file is deleted.
